Matt Haughey may not be a name that you are familiar with and many of you may never have stumbled across any of his websites. But for those technically minded, technology focused individuals on the internet (of which there are thousands) MetaFilter.com and PVRBlog.com are two of the websites that you are proud to browse; and for those of you that have ever thought of starting a blog, Matt had a hand in that too.
Matt Haughey is an internet entrepreneur that having left PyraLabs (the company behind blogger.com) went on to create some extremely popular and extremely profitable websites.
"Someday, I'd like to live in a remote place like this [a forest near California], screwing around on the web. All I need is a fast connection."
That was Matt's dream in September 1997, eight years later he called up his (then) boss and handed in his notice. In those eight years Matt had created a string of sites which were now surpassing his monthly wage in terms of revenue; freeing him from the daily grind.
Haughey's latest site is not revenue focused (although it does posess some advertisements) but instead aims to give useful tips and how-to's on running a successful online business; being that an ecommerce store or a community site that earns revenue through advertising and subscriptions.
Every week Matt aims to write another article based on his phenomenal success. Current entries include:
- How Ads Work
- Tips for Running a Community
- How to Talk to the Press
- How to Take Advantage of Online Applications
Fortuitous (http://www.fortuito.us) promises to be an interesting read for anyone hoping to make their living online or take advantage of the internet in their business
